Alvaro Romero

Álvaro was born in Valladolid, a city in northern Spain. He earned both his bachellor's and PhD degrees in Chemistry from the University of Valladolid. During his doctoral studies, under the supervision of Professor Raúl García Rodríguez, his research focused on the synthesis of tris(pyridyl) ligands based on heavy main group elements and their coordination chemistry. After completing his PhD, he moved to the United States to join Indiana University as a postdoctoral researcher under the supervision of Professor José Goicoechea, where he studied multiple bonding between main group elements and small-molecule activation. He later joined the Crimmin Group at Imperial College London, where he explores the synthesis, bonding, and reactivity of heterobimetallic complexes with potential applications in C–H activation and catalysis. Outside the laboratory, Álvaro enjoys coffee, hitting the gym, and spending time with friends.
