A Molecular Science Research Group
Jiahuang (Edward) Mao was born in Ningbo, China. He moved to Australia for kindergarten, returned to China for primary school, and then moved to the UK at the age of 14. He completed his GCSEs and A-levels at Cranleigh School in Surrey before joining Imperial College London for his undergraduate studies. Edward joined the Crimmin Group for his MSci year, where he delved into fluorine chemistry, working on dehydrofluorination and transfer fluorination. He enjoyed the experience of being a chemistry researcher and came to appreciate the importance of fluorine recycling. Motivated by these insights, he continued in the Crimmin Group for his PhD, aiming to tackle challenging problems related to fluorine chemistry with global relevance. Outside of chemistry, Edward enjoys badminton, hiking, and is always keen to try any sport when given the opportunity.
