A Molecular Science Research Group
Amanda was born and raised in Utopia, Canada, before trading small-town life for the research labs of Vancouver, where she earned her B.Sc. at the University of British Columbia. Under the supervision of Dr Laurel Schafer, she explored the reductive coupling of alcohols using vanadium catalysts—a project that sparked her passion for catalysis. Her academic journey then took her across the pond to Imperial College London for her Ph.D., where she worked with Dr Mark Chadwick and Dr Andy Ashley to design iron, cobalt, and nickel catalysts for nitrogen fixation. Now, as a postdoctoral researcher in the Crimmin Lab, she focuses on fluorine recycling and main-group complexes, expanding her expertise beyond transition metals. O utside the lab, Amanda can be found hiking, camping, or rock climbing—when she isn’t engrossed in a book for hours on end.
